Environment: Our certified municipalities are committed to making a difference every day!

World Environment Day gives us the opportunity to highlight one of our certified municipalities, which serves as a model for environmental conservation!

Since 2019, the city of Nîmes has implemented a differentiated management approach for green spaces to determine the level of maintenance required based on their location and use. This approach, which is in line with the principles of sustainable development, helps preserve and enhance biodiversity, reduce pollution—by using alternatives to pesticides—and manage natural resources effectively.

Part of the Nîmes communal forest is managed in partnership with the ONF (National Forestry Office) under the forestry regime, thereby ensuring the long-term protection and preservation of these areas. A 20-year management plan, covering nearly 800 hectares, aims to pass on essential resources—such as timber, biodiversity, and landscape diversity—to future generations.

Nîmes has a municipal nursery capable of producing 55,000 containers of plants. With 85% of the plants produced on site and 350 species and varieties, including collections of olive trees, oleanders, and lavender, the nursery plays a crucial role in the city’s greening efforts.

Awarded the 4 Fleurs certification by the CNVVF since 2014, Nîmes stands out as a city committed to protecting the environment and improving the quality of life for its residents.
