You may have a driver's license, but do you have a license to plant?
Launched by the City of Vichy’s Parks and Recreation Department, this program offers residents, business owners, and organizations the opportunity to actively participate in greening their immediate surroundings.
Distributed as a handout, the guide provides a list of plants suitable for each location (full sun, shade, perennials, grasses, etc.). It also outlines best environmental practices for watering, pruning, and plant care to provide participants with step-by-step guidance.
Here are the three steps to getting your driver's license:
1️⃣ Choosing a location: Each applicant decides where in the city they would like to plant greenery (at the base of walls, fences, building facades, or even at the base of trees).
2️⃣ Obtaining a permit: Once the project has been approved by the municipality, each participant receives an agreement authorizing the use of public property.
3️⃣ City support: The city of Vichy covers the initial installation, supplies, and work required to deliver spaces ready for gardening. A “Nature in the City” coordinator from the Parks and Recreation Department is also dedicated to this initiative.
This community-wide initiative aims to beautify the city while enhancing biodiversity and the quality of life for its residents. Vichy has also held the CNVVF’s “4 Fleurs” certification since 1973!
