“We shouldn’t feel like we own a tree, but rather that we’re responsible for it”
It was with these words that Georges Fetermen, President of the A.R.B.R.E.S. association, presented Florence Karras with the “Remarkable Tree of France” designation for her magnificent Caucasian walnut tree located in the heart of the Domaine de Fresnoy, alongside our Vice President Daniel Level.
This distinction echoes the CNVVF, which has been awarding the National Tree Prize to municipalities every year for over 30 years to recognize the sound management, development, renewal, and promotion of the municipal tree heritage.
In 2023, the cities of Nice and Eu in Seine-Maritime received this award.
Eu is home to some sixty different recorded tree species, including a giant California thuja, a Lebanese cedar, and a Guisard beech.
Awarded the “4 Fleurs” label since 1996, Eu also offers educational programs focused on trees, such as tree-planting activities with local schoolchildren, which help raise awareness among younger generations about protecting natural heritage and environmental issues.
