88 municipalities evaluated for their commitment to a sustainable living environment
During the months of June and July, the 65 members of the national jury for the Villes et Villages Fleuris award Villes et Villages Fleuris France. Their mission: to evaluate 88 municipalities committed to sustainably improving their living environments.
🧠Field Assessment: A Time for Discussion
The national jury is responsible for evaluating:
- Municipalities applying for the 4th Flower, the label’s highest level of excellence
- Local governments working to renew their accreditation
- Notable initiatives that may be eligible for national awards: Fleur d’Or, National Tree Award, National Award for Plant Diversity (in partnership with VALHOR), Participatory Gardening and Sustainable Food Award (in partnership with SEMAE), National Award for Tourist Attractiveness, National Award for Heritage Promotion, and National Award for Environmental Preservation.Â
As a reminder, the first three flowers are awarded directly by the regional juries.Â
🌳Recognizing a regional development project that goes beyond landscaping
In the face of climate change, water scarcity, and the decline in biodiversity, the certification program supports local governments in the sustainable development of their communities.
Municipalities are evaluated based on a national framework of 68 criteria, which takes into account, among other things, municipal strategy, the importance placed on green spaces, environmental management, the quality of public spaces, and resident involvement.
Through this comprehensive approach, the label highlights local projects that go beyond simply planting flowers: developing tree-lined areas, creating cool spots, managing resources sustainably, preserving biodiversity, and engaging residents.
📅 Key Dates on the National Assessment Schedule
- June–July: Review of applications and site visits.Â
- September 2: National plenary meeting. The jury chairs and CNVVF staff meet to review the results and collectively decide on the awards.Â
- December 1: Awards ceremony in Paris to honor the winning municipalities.Â
We wish all members of the jury, as well as the municipal teams working every day to bring about sustainable improvements to our quality of life, the very best of luck on their tours.Â
