In partnership with Plante & Cité, we organized our first thematic webinar, focused on a major challenge for sustainable land use planning: soil de-impermeabilization.
This webinar brought together more than 200 participants—including elected officials and technical staff from certified municipalities—who came to learn about concrete solutions for adapting their public spaces to climate change.
On the agenda:
- The challenges posed by soil sealing: increased flooding, the formation of urban heat islands, and the loss of biodiversity.
- The benefits of de-impermeabilization and de-compaction: natural water infiltration, the return of vegetation, and improved urban comfort and quality of life.
- A presentation by Plante & Cité, outlining the practical lessons learned from the DESSERT research program and the technical guide “De-impermeabilizing Cities: A Practical Guide to (Re)discovering Soils.”
- The case study from the city of Dunkirk, which highlights the exemplary redevelopment of the Kléber-Perrault schoolyard, incorporating cooling islands, green spaces, ecological corridors, and biodiversity refuges.
